Register for the 2018 Rotary Multi-Sport RiverFest

Join us in Riverfront Park for the Rotary Multi-Sport RiverFest! At the heart of the lineup of events, the Triathlon and Duathlon will encompass three parks, two bridges and one river.  Starting and finishing in Riverfront Park in downtown Salem, participants will enter the Willamette River and swim to Wallace Marine Park in West Salem.  The bike leg then crosses back over the river on the converted Union Street railroad bridge, heads past downtown Salem and enters the scenic countryside on River Road South, before returning to Riverfront Park and the transition to running.  Runners cross the newly constructed Peter Courtney footbridge into Minto-Brown Island park, passing through natural wildlife habitat and along the banks of the Willamette River.  The finish line at Riverfront park is the gateway to post-event festivities that include local food, beer and wine, music, and a wellness exhibition.

Building on the success of last year's inaugural event, this year we are adding a Kid's Run and Half Marathon to the 5k and 10k running distances. Like last year, everything will be centered in Riverfront Park in downtown Salem. All runs will cross the new Peter Courtney Minto Island bridge, where participants will experience the natural wildlife habitat and (for the 10k and Half Marathon participants) run along the bank of the Willamette River. The finish line in Riverfront Park is the gateway to the post-race festivities under the big tent.

All finishers receive a hefty medal and tech shirt; those who place in their age group also receive an additional gold, silver, or bronze medal.

2018 Swim Details

The swim course for the Rotary Multi-sport RiverFest has inherent challenges which will make it very rewarding to all who complete it, but will also require participants to adequately train and prepare before the event. In late September, the current is starting to pick up again after the summer lull, and water temperatures drop to an average of 58 degrees, sometimes colder. Swim coach Mat Hudson has prepared a thorough Swim Guide specifically for our course, based on his own experience and that of others. Please read it carefully.

Anyone who has already registered and wishes not to do the swim is welcome to switch to the Duathlon, and this option will be open up to and including the day of the race. If you wish to change your registration now or at any time before the day of race, please email and we will make that happen.

In the interest of safety, we will have kayaks, motor boats, and jet skis along the course and warming shelters on each bank, along with ambulance support just in case.

Coach Mat will be leading several FREE River Clinics on the river this summer to help swimmers to prepare for the course. Please note that a certain degree of pool training is required before attending these courses -- you can read all about it by clicking on the link.
